2024 Agathe Bursin Eminence Sylvaner
2024 Agathe Bursin Eminence Sylvaner
The wine is fragrant with pears, herbs, and baked apple. On the palate, it is powerful and rich, with moderate acidity and a long finish.

Of course, there is plenty of Silvaner in Germany, but I am particularly fascinated by the Sylvaners from Alsace. The French (or rather the Alsatians) swap the "I" in the name for a "Y," and the wines tend to be somewhat rounder and more concentrated than those of their German neighbors. That said, one must be careful here too, as simple Sylvaners are often just acidic and unremarkable. The good ones are like the Eminence…
The adventurous and versatile Agathe Bursin harvests her Sylvaner grapes from the Grand Cru site Zinnkoepfle, sourced from Sylvaner vines nearly a hundred years old. Nevertheless, Agathe is not permitted to write "Grand Cru" on the label because the Grand Cru classification does not apply to Sylvaner. So you get the weight and aromatic complexity of a Grand Cru for the price of a mid-range wine… Bureaucracy has its advantages after all!
