Vin Gris is a trend in the wine world. It is not a “gray” wine, but a slightly pink wine made from white grape varieties. Well, it's not quite that simple, because the grapes used need to have some color. Grape varieties such as Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, and Moschofilero have pink or gray skins, which means that a rosé-colored wine can be produced from these grape varieties.

Route Gris is a classic example of a Vin Gris. The grape skins macerate for just under a day in the fermenting must and are then pressed. Half of the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and the other half in wooden barrels. Route Gris then matures for a short time in concrete tanks before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. The result is an exciting, lively, and extraordinary wine. Jancis Robinson's website says: "Tightly meshed – there is real structure here. Mouth-watering wet-clay texture."

The wine is a delicate pink. It smells of ripe peach, strawberry, and raspberry. On the palate, it is refreshingly clear, dry, and combines lightness with expression. The finish is long and leaves you wanting more.
