The wine has a clear and precise aroma of blackberries, currants, and ripe black cherries. On the palate, the wine is open and powerful, with fine but grippy tannins and a very long finish.

Barbaresco was long considered a hopeless corner of the wine world. The more famous Barolo overshadowed its wines, but even Barolo was no sure-fire success. As a result, the region slowly bled dry. The winemakers' children moved to the cities to earn a secure income on the assembly lines of Fiat, and the vineyards became overgrown. Yet the region has so many great vineyards, and the local grape variety can convey the differences between vineyards in the glass like few other varieties. Fortunately, this is now widely recognized, and individual vineyards are once again appreciated.
The Montefico Bric Mentina vineyard is a small strip above the village of Barbaresco. Marco Rocca can observe the vines all year round from the garden of his La Ca' Nova winery and explains that the vineyard gets more sun throughout the year than his other vineyard, Montestefano. This is how he explains why Montefico is more accessible and often impresses with rich fruit and plenty of power.
