2017 Chevillard St. Jean de la Porte La Mort
The La Mort has aromas of blackberries, pepper and violets, along with toasty notes and hints of tobacco. On the palate it remains powerful and structured, despite its low alcohol content. The finish is very long and complex.

Savoie has a lot to offer. As a rule, the region is known more for its refreshing white wines. But the red wines, especially from the native Mondeuse grape, are something special. No wine demonstrates this better than the La Mort from Chevillard. It comes from the small cru of St. Jean de la Porte, where the Mondeuse vines grow on slopes and take root in stony soil. The result is structured wines with aromatic complexity.
At Chevillard, the decision was made to age the "La Mort" parcel for a long time in the domaine's cellar – first in barrique, then in bottle. After almost 10 years, the wine shows no signs of fatigue, but has gained in complexity and depth. It is arguably the best red wine from Savoie I have ever tasted.
